On a rainy night, when the forest bent with wind,
A Fox walked on, weary from the road behind.
Beside him flew an Owl, her feathers soaked and cold,
Her hollow tree too small, her shelter growing old.
Until, through drifting mist and quiet, shadowed air,
A stone-built house appeared, both warm and standing fair.
“Be careful,” said the Fox, “such gifts are rarely free.”
Yet gently swung the door, as calm as it could be.
No trap, no gold inside, no glittering display,
But firelight, rest, and peace to chase the dark away.
They entered, laid their burdens, felt the night retreat.
Outside, the storm grew tired, defeated by the heat.
At dawn, refreshed, they left, with lighter hearts than when
They came upon the house that welcomed beast and men.
One may seek a roof, and find much more inside;
True luxury is care, not wealth nor pride.
