Moret-sur-Loing

An atypical village

The royal square, the ramparts, the 12th century keep are proud of their medieval roots and structure the architecture of the old town of Moret Sur Loing. If the 1,356 meters of ramparts and the twenty or so turrets are no longer all there, the two gates of Burgundy and Samois and the town center urban planning bear magnificent witness to this medieval past.

The majesty of the doors, the bridge and the banks of the Loing, as well as the Notre Dame church, make Moret Sur Loing a must-see site for lovers of hiking history and painting. As you wander through the heart of the city, you will discover the superb facades of the renaissance, the House of barley sugar, a specialty of the sisters since the 17th century or the house and tomb of Alfred Sisley, “the Impressionist Moretan “who was the first to capture the majesty and light of the village.

Sisley

Many tourists come to see the sites painted by Sisley, whose “spots” are still preserved: the bridge over the Loing, immortalized by the painter, the Notre-Dame church, the dominating keep, towpaths …

For you, who come as a neighbor, take advantage of the guided tours and do not hesitate to get lost in the small streets or along the banks, before eating at one of the best tables in the village. Hikes, canoe descents, arrival by boat at the port of call, the Sisley point, the municipal museum, the Bicycle museum, the festivities of the Spring and 1900 festivals – in May and September – Moret Sur Loing’s heart is still beating as fast !
